- Breast diseases can be of various types. Among the most common are breast cancer, fibrocystic breast disease and breast infections. The symptoms of each disease may differ.
- Breast Cancer: It may manifest itself with symptoms such as hardness, mass or swelling in the breast tissue, blood coming from the nipple, redness or shrinkage of the breast skin.
- Fibrocystic Breast Disease: Pain, tenderness and irregularity in the breast tissue are usually among the symptoms of this disease.
- Breast Infections: Symptoms such as fever, pain, redness and discharge from the nipple may be signs of infection.
- Inflammation of the breast (mastitis): This is usually seen in breastfeeding women, but can occur in women of any age. Mastitis is characterised by inflammation of the breast tissue and symptoms include pain, swelling, redness and fever.
- Breast Cysts: Breast cysts are fluid-filled sacs and are usually painless. However, they can grow and in some cases cause discomfort. They can increase during hormonal changes.
